Steering Committee Meeting, 5/23/22

On May 23, the King’s Beach Steering Committee met to review the role of the Committee and hear reports from Kleinfelder regarding initial screening of six potential solutions to address the bacterial contamination at King’s Beach.

Strategies considered included source elimination, pumping dry weather base flow to the Lynn Water and Sewer Commission treatment plant, disinfection by chemical addition (chlorination), disinfection by UV light, extending the outfall pipe deeper into the ocean, and relocating the outfall.

The Committee considered necessary permitting, conceptual costs, siting restrictions, performance reliability, and operations and maintenance for each potential solution. Discussions also covered implementation schedule, environmental impact, and stakeholder acceptance. The Committee was tasked with weighting these criteria in order to identify the top 3 solutions for Kleifelder to perform a more detailed alternative analysis.
